Farm Biosecurity

Biosecurity is a set of practices that prevent the spread of disease among animals, carrier animals such as pests, insects, birds,
people, and the environment. It's important for protecting the health of animals, the safety of people, and the quality of food.

Here are some ways to practice biosecurity:

 Create
Develop a biosecurity plan that's specific to your farm and animals. The plan should address how to keep a clean and dirty line
between the farm and the outside environment.

 Train people
Ensure that anyone who interacts with animals is properly trained on how to enter animal housing areas. This may include
changing outerwear or using disposable boot coverings.

 Disinfect
Use disinfectants to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. You can disinfect livestock housing, vehicles, surfaces, and
equipment.

 Consider visitors
Visitors can introduce disease to a herd, so it's important to consider them. Track previous record of visitors if they have already
been visiting the same species of animals in the passing weeks. Verify and allow only tolerant entry levels where animals can be
100% separated from susceptible new visitors and incumbent farm workers.

Some common ways that disease spreads on a farm include:

• Direct contact between animals
  
• Dirty equipment, clothing, and footwear
  
• Diseased animals, pests, insects, birds
  
• Animals that have recovered from disease but are now carriers
  
• Contaminated water
  
• Contaminated feed and dirty bedding

understanding. There are different types of disinfectant programs available at Stellar Unity that farm supervisors can choose, pick, and
evaluate for their own farm security management. Together with many disinfectants we promote, we can also bring in monitoring
systems and engineering tools to install them in order to achieve high-standard biosecurity farm management.
